A 2019 Year-End Message from the SoundMind Team

We hope your holidays are merry and you've been spending your days contemplating how amazing it would be if everyone with trauma and mental illness could have access to psychedelic therapies!

As 2019 comes to a close, we want to remind you that you can make your tax-deductible donation to SoundMind Project up until midnight. Ways you can make a donation include the following:

Also, we have big news! We have successfully found an office space that we will be occupying, on 46th and Spruce street in West Philadelphia. It contains several offices and also zoned to allow a couple of residential units, which we will be able to reserve for nonmedical overnight stays after MDMA sessions. This is beyond exciting for us!

Now that we have an amazing space picked out, please help us outfit the therapy rooms! We need furniture, comfy places to lie down, funky plants and meditation-inducing art. We would love your help!

We have already accomplished the following this past year:

  • Started 8 clinicians training with MAPS MDMA-Assisted-Psychotherapy Expanded Access Protocol

  • Developed a sliding scale payment model to subsidize people from marginalized groups who can't afford full-pay treatment. Access is the most important issue we are working to address.

  • Made connections with our psychotherapist colleagues in Puerto Rico to have a satellite location there, in addition to West Philadelphia

  • Held several community meetings and informational sessions to incorporate the needs of our community into our model

With our new office space set to open this spring, there will also be a large area for gatherings, and we have begun to put together an amazing curriculum for local clinicians and community members, including workshops and classes about medicinal mushrooms for clinicians, meditation to prevent burnout, and other inspiring topics.

In 2020, with the help of your generous support, we aim to:

  • Furnish a psychotherapy office and open our doors

  • Finish training our 8 clinicians in MDMA-Assisted-Psychotherapy with MAPS to begin providing the therapy pending FDA approval

  • Train 2-3 clinicians on our team in Ketamine-Assisted-Psychotherapy

  • Add several additional clinicians to our team to include a focus on treating Puerto Ricans who are suffering from PTSD after Hurricane Maria, both in Pennsylvania and in Puerto Rico. Read more about our Puerto Rico initiative

  • Make educational animations about MDMA and psychedelic therapies to lower the barrier of entry for marginalized groups

  • Hold classes in our new office space about the uses of medicinal mushrooms, the use of meditation for mental health, and other integrative therapies that can be used in combination with psychedelic psychotherapy

  • Develop research that includes understanding how to tailor these therapies for specific marginalized populations, including BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), people with disabilities, and LGBTQIA+ populations.

We are so excited to have this opportunity to work with these exciting and revolutionary treatments and are so grateful for your support!
